Severe disruption as torrential rain braces the county

Norwich's bus network was severely affected yesterday as sudden torrential downpours swept across the county.

The worst affected area was the A47 in the Honingham area where water submerged the road. Delays were so heavy that Konectbus suspended service on Konectbus service 8 between Norwich Bus Station, Castle Meadow, Norwich Railway Station and Riverside. At 16:45, the service was diverted via the B1108 and skipped the sections of route out of Dereham. Four extra buses were sent out plus a relief between Toftwood and Dereham to give buses from Norwich extra time to make up minutes at Dereham Market Place.

The First X1 between Norwich and Dereham was diverted out of Norwich via Drayton, Taverham and Attlebridge to Lenwade then along Wood Lane to resume the normal route midway through Hockering village.

First were reporting delays to Red Line 24/24A due to flooding at Longwater Retail Park and 29 due to flooding in Taverham. The 15 and 15A were diverted in Brundall due to flooding on Strumpshaw Road and trains were affected similarly in the area.

Elsewhere in Norfolk, high levels of water were reported on the routes of many rural services out of Norwich including Semmence 10A and Anglianbus 84, 85 and 86, whilst Halesworth was put on flood alert. School in the West of the region were sent home early and home-to-school coaches called in earlier than usual to ensure students safety getting home. Konectbus 1 was unable to serve Sporle in both directions because of the narrow roads being completely blocked by water.
