Oddball Wednesday - Designline Olymbus 2HEV

The unusually style Desingline Olymbus 2HEV (Steven Hodgson)
Could this week's Oddball be one of the strangest styled modern buses delivered to a British operator?

In 2004, Stagecoach evaluated a sole Designline Olymbus 2HEV - a fully electric, 29 seat, dual door single decker produced wholy by the American owned Australian manafacturer. It saw spells in London, Carlisle and Winchester to name just a few. Becoming  80009, VX04MGZ prospered into an order for nine further vehicles for the tendered Quaylink service.

The later nine were delivered in 2005, given fleet numbers in the 6 series. 2010 saw the buses replaced by Optare Versas with a change of contract to Go-North East. All ten of the batch were withdrawn and stored, where it was said an American company was to purchase them for reconditioning and onward sale. This never grew any further and the entire batch were sent for scrapping, where they continue to reside today.
