Around the UK: Stagecoach takeover Plymouth and more calamities!

Stagecoach have announced a number of changes to their newly
acquired Plymouth operation.
This week, the news has reach me of the plans that Stagecoach have following their takeover of First's Plymouth operation. Five services operating to St Budeaux, Efford, Woolwell, Launceston and Torpoint from the City Centre are to be scrapped on the basis that the areas are already "well covered by other services". Stagecoach told local newspaper Plymouth Herald that they are launching earlier and later services. No doubt we can expect more news of competition as hot footed Stagecoach take on Go-Ahead owned Plymouth Citybus. who have invested £3 million in new vehicles which will allow them to operate more buses through St Budeaux, where Stagecoach have cancelled the former First service.

In Mullion, passengers had no choice to climb from the window of their bus after it became firmly wedged on a narrow road with a heavy good vehicles heading in the opposite direction. It is believed that the lorry may have taken a wrong turning, as the narrow road is not often used by HGVs. In London this week, a Golden Tours partial open topper had it's entire front roof section off following impact with a low hanging tree branch near Russell Square. With an almost entire upper deck load, an investigation is being made as to how the incident occured. Five passengers were taken to hospital, although none of the injuries sustained were of a life threatening nature.

At First West of England, Wright Eclipse Urban bodied Volvo B7RLE 66726 WX54XDK has appeared on Facebook repainted in Badgerline heritage livery. Currently the only photos I have seen are 'part photos' taken between buses, but I shall try my best to bring you a full photograph in next week's Around The UK.

In London, the First Alexander Dennis Enviro200MMCs have made their debut. The batch of eight have entered service with Stagecoach on TfL tendered service 499 between Romford and Gallows Corner. Despite my initial thoughts on the radically redesigned model, in bright London red they do look quite the part.
