Silfield shuttles, a very rare working and other updates

As I promised in a report on Monday 20th July, I today headed back out to Wymondham to see what is being employed on the shuttles between the town centre and Silfield. I took the 13 to Wymondham today, which works out much quicker than a 14 or 15 as it operates direct via the A11 rather than via Hethersett village.

To clarify to those who may be unaware, Station Road is closed and there is no other way for First Norwich service 14 to efficiently serve Silfield - the other side of the railway bridge which is closed. As a result, Norfolk County Council are laying on a free shuttle service to ferry passengers, albeit to a slightly restricting timetable. As I had expected, Wymondham based Semmence Coaches have been contracted to run the service. Today's offering was dual purpose seated Plaxton Beaver 2 bodied Mercedes Benz O814D Vario 102 SF04HXU. There is something I have always loved about the type; part of me thinks it may be the way that, from the noise it makes, it is quite obviously derived from a truck chassis. Thankfully, newer O815D and O816D Varios are not as noisy - however, the Vario range is now discontinued. 102 was new to Semmence, and is now one just three or four remaining in the fleet.

Rare EM10GSM made an appearance on the 2 into Norwich today.
Back in Norwich, I was lucky to catch a very rare allocation on Simonds service 2 to Diss. In use today was EM10GSM, a rare Plaxton Panther bodied MAN 18.360 which had been new to Maynes of Buckie. The appearance of a coach on the 1 and 2 is a daily occurrence, however, appearances are usually restricted to the same handful of VanHool Alizee bodied Volvos. There were also a fair few notable workings from First today; on the 28 was 66348 MV02VDC, with sister 66328 MV02VBC on the 21 and 22. Gemini 36172 BD11CFV was noted on the 21 and 22 also, with similar 36173 BD11CFX working the 23 and 23A. At Konectbus, yellow Optare Versa 305 YJ60KGU made an appearance on the 52 and Optare Tempo 413 YJ09MHZ appeared on the 51.
