Oddball Wednesday - Darwen Panaire

Darwen Group's promotional image of the Panaire.
Following on from last week's Oddball Wednesday, this week I bring you another bus so odd that it was never actually built.

In 2006, East Lancs launched its new Esteem bodywork, which was a modernisation of the existing Myllennium range of products. Launched alongside it was the double deck Olympus, and open top double deck Visionaire. Unknown by many was the Panaire, an open top equivalent of the Esteem single decker. No orders were ever placed, and hence the option was discontinued.

In 2007 the company went into administration and was saved by Darwen Group. The owner then formed a private investment company who went on to purchase Optare, when a reverse takeover was performed and all names dropped in favour of Optare's.

In the space between 2007 and the reverse takeover in 2008, products were marketed as Darwen.
