A surprising loanee, plus a new acqusition revealed

393 sits at Mousehould Heath as part of the City Sightseeing trip
A big surprise came along to Norwich yesterday evening, which I went out to Norwich to photograph this afternoon.

On loan to Awayadays from Ensignbus is Alexander RH bodied Volvo Olympian 393 P493MBY. I am informed that native Northern Counties bodied Leyland Olympian G520VBB suffered a mechanical failure yesterday afternoon, and as result is off the road at Norfolk Truck and Bus for repairs. Regular readers may remember the loan of similar J343BSH from Talisman Coachlines back in March. More on that can be seen here.

P394MBY had been new to Metroline in London, and was still in service in the capital on route 4 as some of the final step entrance buses on Transport For London tendered services. In 2010, after service with Aintree Coach Lines, Ensignbus acquired the bus, converted it to open top and gave it new City Sightseeing branded vinyl seating. In the same year, the bus was chosen to carry a temporary vinyl wrap following Chelsea Football Clubs success in the 2009 to 2010 season.

Back home safely, 393 sits at her top secret home in the local area
I aimed to photograph the bus at various locations, rather than just in the city centre, as part of my quest to photograph buses in as many different places as possible. Seen above it 393 at Mousehould Heath outside the former H.M. Norwich Prison. I was then very kindly invited to take a ride back to her top secret storage location (Hush if you happen to know it please!) at a farm in the local vicinity.

Whilst on the subject, I am privileged to reveal that Awaydays have sourced a new vehicle for the Norwich City Sightseeing Tour. Plaxton President bodied Volvo B7TL X547EGK, which has previously seen service with locally based Coach Services, is to have an open top conversion and vinyl seating fitted in due course. It is not yet known when the vehicle will be completed, and it is subject to change. The main purpose of the acquisition is to meet Disabled Discriminatory Act requirements, which comes into force for double deckers in 2017.
